The Nonfarm Pay rolls and the Trading Error

Courtesy of eToro

An unclear trading error triggered heavy selling in US Equities and caused US indices to fall sharply with the Dow falling -3.2% the S&P 500 -3.24% all in less than 20 minutes between 2:40-3:00 PM New York. This unexpected event amid woes in Greece only added more nervousness to the volatile Forex market causing short traders to crowd even more bets against the Euro and the Cable. The Indices recovered rather quickly but market nervousness remained high.

Markets Went Bezerk

Rumor has it that the markets went bezerk today after a bank trader pressed the wrong button and sold $15B instead of $15M.  I’ve hit the wrong button before too, but never that bad!
Apparently it was a major US Bank shorting the S&P and soon enough the likes of Procter & Gamble fell $20 a share in a flash.

And of course in true fashion, I went to bed minutes before it all happened and missed out…

European Markets Closed for Easter

Happy Easter!

It will be a relatively slow trading day until the US Market opens at 1200 GMT.

The Japanese session has been slow as well. The Japanese have been known to be sneaky in that they manipulate the markets when other markets are closed.  No sign of this so far.

At 1400 GMT the USD ISM Non-Manufacturing PMI and Pending Home Sales come out.  Perhaps the USD/JPY will jump to new highs!

Strategy for Trading Non-Farm Payroll Report

This week is Non-Farm Payroll Report Week.  The Non-Farm Payroll Report is a major USD Economic News event that takes place every first Friday of the month.  This is where alot of profits can be made, or you can lose your shirt.

There are many great ways to trade NFP.   As a technical trader I either open up a hedge and let the profits run and close the losing trade at the first sign of trouble.  You have to be careful however, the NFP has been known to do a fake out and reverse shortly after setting a new course.
